Enclosure 2.
REPORT BY THE ATTORNEY GENERAL ON ORDINANCE No. RCCB C. O. 505 2.7 OF 1887
ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE,
the 2nd March 1887.
I have examined the accompanying Ordinance, entitled "An Ordinance to remove doubts as to the application of Ordinance No. 2 of 1875;" and I am of opinion that the Ordinance is one which is not contrary to the Governor's Instructions.
Before the Assizes in which the accused was charged with unlawfully detaining two Annamese women, the Chief Justice decided that Ordinance No. 2 of 1875 did not apply to Chinese women. This Ordinance was therefore introduced to remove all doubt on this point.
